Precision crystal FAQsTo get answers to the most frequently asked questions about our precision crystals, please select one of the links below:
What is a precision crystal?Precision crystals are tight tolerance crystals having a calibration tolerance of less than ±10 PPM and or a temperature tolerance of less than ±10PPM or any other special processing requirements such as ovenized crystals, low phase noise crystals, Quartz Microbalance crystals, BT-cut crystals, SC-cut crystals, IT-cut crystals, and FC-cut crystals. What are precision crystals used for?Precision crystals are primarily used in research applications as a reference point to measure minute changes in frequency responses. What are low phase noise crystals?Low phase noise crystals are crystals designed to have a pure spectral signal. What are low phase noise crystals used for?Low phase noise crystals are often used in critical applications such as communications and radar. What are ovenized crystals?Ovenized crystals are any crystals made to operate at a temperature above the anticipated ambient temperature (typically +50°C to +110°C) in order to eliminate changes in frequency due to the change in temperature. What are ovenized crystals used for?Ovenized crystals are used for clocks in Navigation Systems, Frequency Standards, MTI Radar, Wireless Base Stations, Telecom Timing modules, and Precision Test Equipment. What are Quartz Microbalance Crystals?Quartz Microbalance Crystals are also referred to as QCM, which is a piezoelectric quartz crystal that utilizes the Converse Piezoelectric Effect to determine mass changes as a result of frequency change of the crystal. Material is coated onto the crystal that attracts a certain other material. When this other material becomes attached, it lowers the crystal frequency, the amount being directly related to its mass. The mass change can be in the nanogram range. What are Quartz Microbalance (QCM) crystals used for?QCM crystals are used as sensors to determine mass changes as a result of frequency changes. What are the most common research applications for QCM crystals? The most common QCM crystal applications include chemical reaction monitors, biomedical sensors, metal deposition monitors, and environmental monitoring applications. What are military crystals?Military crystals are quartz crystals that are designed to meet military specifications (mil-spec) and produced to Mil-Spec requirements (QPL) What are military crystals used for?Military crystals are used in such applications as guidance systems, two-way radio communications and global positioning location systems. What are special cut crystals?Special cut crystals are those crystals that have been cut at a different angle of orientation to enhance performance for specific needs. Typical special cuts would include BT-cut crystals, SC-cut crystals, IT-cut crystals, and FC-cut crystals. What are special cut crystals used for?Special cut crystals are typically used for highly specialized applications dependant on customer requirements.
